- 4P's, 6E's - and other "strategic points of consideration
- student "crowd sourcing" an analysis
- basically the point of this "in class" exercise is , if someone walked up to you and said
"you are a 3rd yr management student at Canada's largest university, and you are taking a strategy course, what
do you think of the merger...?" could you say something useful and interesting in response?

Strategic Marketing by
Todd Mooradian
Kurt Matzler
and Lawrence Ring
- this is not a "required" text
Strategic Marketing is used in the topics of
Chpt 3 Mission Statements and Vision Statements
Chpt 5 Competitor Intelligence

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nLkslGMe3tk Mentioned in class Sept 17th about some "practical - tactical" things you need to know about managing a business, like the steps to incorporate - which, funnily enough, is something missing from almost every business/marketing course i know of at college/university
So if you are interested in knowing this, click on the small screen capture and watch the video

This is NOT "testable" material, it is just something every business/marketing student should know - accounting students should also know this in order to advise their clients.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0OAU-SGPzXY&list=UUAtk_NQTEd9jP4hEI6lPUHA&index=1&feature=plcp Contest Sept 2012
- just like we have SWOT for Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats, I'd like to create an acronym for the 6E's
 o economic
 o technological
 o political/legal - regulatory
 o social-cultural
 o competitive
 o geographic
You can re-arrange the order anyway you like, your task is to come up with something easy for students to remember
- whichever class, or group comes up with the best acronym, wins a "food prize"
note: some students have been taught "PEST", which stands for political, economic, social and technological environment, but, in reality, the influences on business also include "competition" and "geography", which means PEST is inadequate cause when you are talking about the things you can control (4P's) and the things you can't control (the environments), PEST is not enough, you need 2 more (competition and geography)
