The Basics
You are required to produce a video (which can be uploaded to YouTube) discussing a situation related to some Global Marketing circumstance.

2015
2016
2017
In 2015, 2016, 2017 this video was about an ethical situation that would effect a company involved in Global Business and Marketing.

2015 Foxconn in China, employee suicides https://youtu.be/2GA-It2XBGY
2016 Greenwashing, misleading customers  https://youtu.be/gCAYHDSgxww
2016 Fake Vaccines https://youtu.be/4uG5AGffKOM
2017 Persian Culture tips https://youtu.be/-Amfik1HIrE
2017 Shadeism - prejudice against dark skinned ppl  https://youtu.be/ZTwGvDps3dA

2018
2019
In 2018 - 2019 students became more interested in climate change, so students were welcome to do an
  • ethical situation,
  • OR a climate change situation,
  • or discuss some extreme weather problem.
examples

2018 Supply chain interuption effecting fast food https://youtu.be/a6HYLKyimzM
2018 Mining company tax evasion https://youtu.be/b95SVOQ1ulk
2019 Money Laundering (good use of humour) https://youtu.be/TiyJqo6kC6w
2019 Nestle milk formula controversy https://youtu.be/hOzS_PrHJs
2019 video on Weather, El Nino effect https://youtu.be/ZT_QnhOcM-g

when you record your video, make sure the microphone is close enough to pick up the voices of the speakers, and make sure there is not a lot of distracting noise in the background

If you are worried that people might not hear your voice, or understand your accent, please use subtitles

2020
In 2020 the impact of Covid19 was severe, and students were welcome to do an
  • ethical situation,
  • OR a climate change situation,
    • or discuss some extreme weather problem.
  • or discuss how Covid19, a pandemic,
would effect a company involved in Global Business and Marketing.

examples
2020 March video on Australian Wild Fires https://youtu.be/ZzJaRjSgdLs

2021

2022

2023

In 2021, 2022 and 2023, students can do their assignment on how ethics, or weather or a pandemic or s global conflict (ie Russia - Ukraine)
  • ethical situation,
  • a climate change situation,
    • or discuss some extreme weather problem.
  • or discuss how Covid19, a pandemic, would effect a company involved in Global Business and Marketing.

..by making it into a video, which goes on YouTube, each subsequent semester of MRK460 students can "pay it forward" through the video they produce which helps to "educate" each new term of students.

What:

 - basically, think of how the 4P's would be effected by extreme weather or climate change or COVID.

It would be ideal if you made the video fit the circumstances of your final group project

- for example if you were doing the food company Maple Leaf you could talk about weather problems in places where Maple Leaf is sourcing their vegetables.

- of if you were doing a company like Canadian Tire you could talk about how winter weather effects the logistics of the supply trucks getting to the stores on time, or how weather changes have affected their choice of products to sell. (ie. less salt, more alternative de-salting products)

  • P- product - how might you have to source your product differently
    • maybe one region has excessive cold weather effecting the growing season for a particular food ingredient
  • P - price - how would a weather situation or pandemic would effect your increase or decrease in pricing
    • due to increased shipping costs
    • or supply and demand changes
  • P.- promotion - how would a climate or weather change effect your advertising and viral marketing
    • for example you might have to source from several locations so instead of saying "Italian Pasta" you might say "Pasta from Europe"
    • wine - could you say "from the Napa Valley" in California if hot weather meant only some of your grapes are still coming from California
    • or for a pandemic you might talk about things people need to  know about buying online or drive through
  • P - place - how would your place / location / shipping be effected by a weather situation, or covid
    • for example how would "social distancing" reguations effect customers picking up purchases

It would be best if you pick a specific "event" or situation rather than being too general

.
How Have each person in the group look for a story you can discuss. Then meet and discuss each situation and pick the best one to make a video.

"Best" means a story you can find info about.
A story that has details which are "useful and interesting"

.
Process
  • Research about the situation
  • Pic some images / graphics to explain.
  • Maybe show on a map the location.
  • Pick someone to speak to the camera
  • Figure out if you are going to make the video with a smartphone or a real digital camera.
  • Use a tripod
  • Have the person(s) speak clearly and loud so the audio is good
  • Edit the file and add in subtitles and any graphics
  • Check spelling
  • The final "product" would be 3-4 min long - if you will be longer, that is OK, you will not lose marks

  • - keep in miind if it is too long, people do not watch the whole video
    • Go for Quality NOT Quantity
If you find there is a problem emailing the video file to the professor, as a "contingency plan" you can load it to YouTube yourself, and then send to the professor the URL
