Weather Video

The Basics

You are required to produce a video (which can be uploaded to YouTube) discussing a weather / climate situation related to some Global Marketing circumstance.

There are many interesting and important aspects of how weather (effected by climate change) has changed how companies do Global Marketing - but, this subjects is not yet covered in many textbooks.

So we are going to create our own "course content" for this important subject
...AND..by making it into a video, which goes on YouTube, each subsequent semester of MRK460 students can "pay it forward" through the video they produce which helps to "educate" each new term of students.

Weather Video

What:

 - basically, think of how the 4P's would be effected by extreme weather or climate change.

It would be ideal if you made the video fit the circumstances of your final group project

- for example if you were doing the food company Maple Leaf you could talk about weather problems in places where Maple Leaf is sourcing their vegetables.

- of if you were doing a company like Canadian Tire you could talk about how winter weather effects the logistics of the supply trucks getting to the stores on time, or how weather changes have affected their choice of products to sell. (ie. less salt, more alternative de-salting products)

  • P- product - how might you have to source your product differently
    • maybe one region has excessive cold weather effecting the growing season for a particular food ingredient
  • P - price - how would a weather situation effect your increase or decrease in pricing
    • due to increased shipping costs
    • or supply and demand changes
  • P.- promotion - how would a climate or weather change effect your advertising and viral marketing
    • for example you might have to source from several locations so instead of saying "Italian Pasta" you might say "Pasta from Europe"
    • wine - could you say "from the Napa Valley" in California if hot weather meant only some of your grapes are still coming from California
  • P - place - how would your place / location / shipping be effected by a weather situation

  •

It would be best if you pick a specific "event" or situation rather than being too general

.
How Have each person in the group look for a story you can discuss. Then meet and discuss each situation and pick the best one to make a video.

"Best" means a story you can find info about.
A story that has details which are "useful and interesting"

.
Process
  • Research about the situation
  • Pic some images / graphics to explain.
  • Maybe show on a map the location.
  • Pick someone to speak to the camera
  • Figure out if you are going to make the video with a smartphone or a real digital camera.
  • Use a tripod
  • Have the person(s) speak clearly and loud so the audio is good
  • Edit the file and add in subtitles and any graphics
  • Check spelling
  • The final "product" only needs to be  2  min (or 2 min 30 sec) long

  • - if it is too long, people do not watch the whole video
    • Go for Quality NOT Quantity
Upload the video to YouTube, and provide the link to the professor

When you finish, print out this page, fill in the boxes, and hand it in with your video on a USB

We the undersigned give permission for W.T.G. Richardson to put this on his YouTube channel for
educational purposes
