Marketing
a Province: MRK264 - Project
(updated Feb
16)
You and
your team will be marketing one of the Canadian provinces.
Meaning
you will be creating a powerpoint presentation describing the tourist situations
and lifestyle of the province.
The
purpose is to attract tourists, and to attract educated professionals
to come and live in Canada.
Realistically,
such presentations are used by Canadian diplomats when they make presentations
at tourism / trade & investment conferences overseas.
The objective is
to use Excel to help you chart information about the project and to use
these charts as well as other visuals to promote the province to visitors
in a Power Point slide show presentation.
Using the
Internet and search engines found on the Web, you will gather facts and
images to use in your 10 minute presentation.
Basically,
you are making a 10 minute PowerPoint about "all kinds of kewl things"
about the province
Suggested
data to check out includes
-
weather,
-
outdoor recreation (parks, camping,
hiking, etc.)
-
special attractions (museums,
galleries, and estates),
-
family entertainment (theme
parks, fairs, tours),
-
entertainment (theatres, dance
events, music concerts).
You may
think of other ideas to use as you create a number of charts to display
the information.
You may
want to feature certain towns and cities as well as rural information.
Things
to Make sure: Checklist
Did you
explain the basic history and geography of the province?
- use
a map
Have a
slide saying who is in the group, and list what each person worked on
(so I
can know the project was equally produced by all people in the group)
CHARTS
As you
prepare the presentation, decide what information can be charted using
Excel.
Create
a variety of charts (minimum of 4) such as a bar or column chart, a pie
chart, a line chart and a scatter chart.
Did you use some statistics
to explain facts and figures about trade and investment in the province?
- and
put this info in 4 different charts
- You
may want to use the charts to display information about costs for travel
to and visiting
the various
attractions of the province, to show the climate for ideal times to visit
(i.e. best snow conditions for skiing)
When
creating a chart, highlight the range of data you want to include in the
chart.
Click
on the Chart Wizard button and follow the instructions to specify the type
of chart and the options you want.
Be sure
your charts are accurate, readable and clear and present interesting information
related to marketing the province.
The
Presentation
Did you
practice doing your presentation BEFORE the day you do it "for real in
class"
Be sure
to allow enough time to rehearse with your slide show.
You will
be expected to dress appropriately for this presentation.
- on
the day of the presentation, give the professor a printout of the slides
"6 per page" so they can make comments on that page while you are presenting
each presentation
will be 10 - 12 minutes long
